Need a Tutor? Want to be a Tutor?

Feeling a little overwhelmed at school? Or maybe you’re falling further and further behind on your schoolwork, even though you do study, because there are a few lessons you missed along the way. Or maybe you have a hard time focusing on what your teacher says – and need to hear the concept taught another way. No matter what the problem, we can help.

If you can’t get help from your teacher at school (and do try there first because many are willing to help out – and many teachers will cut you a bit of a break if they know you’re putting in the extra effort), you might want to check out a FMSS on-line tutorial or try a FMSS tutor.

Want to become a tutor? If you’re really good at a subject and would like to make some extra money from home, please click on the button in the purple “Become a Tutor” box below.

Got a Quick Question?

We know, sometimes you have a quick question that you need to get answered “right now” in order to get your homework done on time. The step-by-step solutions under the “My School Stuff” tab can probably help with most things. But what if you can’t find the answer and no one is on-line or awake enough to answer your text messages?

Don’t panic; you can get some “any time” minutes that you can use any time, to ask anything. 30-minute packages only cost $17 and the minutes can be used all at once, or a minute at a time – it’s totally up to you. Once you get the package, you’ll also get a code.

Simply type your question in the form, check off the subject and grade level the question relates to, enter your code and you’re half way there. In moments you’ll receive a link to the right place on the FMSS site that might help answer your questions.

And in far less time than it takes for pizza to arrive (within 15 – 20 minutes, guaranteed), a live tutor will be there to help you one-on-one. You’ll get a little nudge when the person is ready, so you can work on other things in the meantime.

Even if it’s two in the morning, a real teacher (or grad student) will be there to answer all your questions. If the links we sent you already answered most of your questions and you only need a couple of minutes of the tutor’s time, that’s all that will be deducted from your bank of “any time” minutes.

Rates:
60 “any time” minutes $ 30
30 “any time” minutes $ 17
Customized Tutoring Sessions
FMSS offers students and families flexible, affordable pricing – and a variety of payment options.

All sessions are one-hour in length as this period is 30% more effective than two 30-minute sessions (too much time spent on going over where you left off, etc.) – and you can really get good understanding of how to approach a specific problem, and still have time to do some practice drills together when you have a full hour.

Before getting started, we’ll ask you a few questions to find out where you’re getting stuck so that we can create a session especially for you. We find this works a lot better than simply starting off each sessions by asking, “Okay, so what would you like help on this time?”

Don’t worry though; we’ll always leave enough time for you to get help with your specific home questions.

In addition to the customized tutoring sessions, you can also opt to have a bank of “any time” minutes. Check out the “Got a Quick Question” box for more info.

You can choose to pay on per session basis, or pre-pay for a block of lessons and save. Pre-paid lessons can be used to pay for multiple tutors and subjects. For instance, you could choose a 10-hour package and get 6 hours of Math help, 2 hours of English and 2 hours of science. They can also be shared by family members (the package, that is, not the actual sessions).

If you find that you and your tutor are not clicking, you can either call us so that we can find out what’s not working for you and suggest someone more suited to your needs, or you can simply click on the “Change Tutor” button and select another one from the list.

You can change your plan at any point and all pre-paid hours will be refunded (pro-rated according to the number used and the corresponding package plan).

About our Tutors

We have a large staff of experienced, qualified tutors who enjoy working with teens of all ages. Our tutoring team includes accredited teachers, college professors, university students and teens. Every FMSS tutor has undergone a comprehensive application process that includes police and reference checks, and has successfully completed our tutoring course. Also, every tutor has been interviewed by both a teen and FMSS' education staff member (we have qualified teachers on staff). That way you can be sure the tutor knows his or her stuff and is good with teens.

All of FMSS’ teen tutors have at least an 80% average in their subject area (confirmed via report card) and are at least one grade ahead of the level they tutor.

All tutors are assigned mentors who regularly review their sessions, student ratings and feedback to continually improve session quality to ensure that teens get the best tutoring experience possible. Also, every tutor (adult and teen) has had a police check within the past 12 months, and is monitored, so you and your parents can feel comfortable about that, too.

Each tutor has a profile you can read to help you choose who might be right or you – and many also have been rated by the teens who have worked with them. And if you choose the wrong one, no problem – you can change tutors right away, without any hassle at all. You don’t even have to tell the tutor you are switching; we do that for you!

As an added bonus: A lot teens have told us that it’s not easy to remember everything a tutor tells them, so every FMSS tutoring session is archived for 6 months. That way, if you need to go back and review the session, you can.
